Museum Gallery Attendants - Part time

Museum of Toronto (formerly Myseum) is a not-for-profit charitable organization founded in 2014. It connects Torontonians to the city and to each other. For over a decade, we have defined how Toronto communities tell, share, and learn about our unique and ever-evolving city through our histories and aspirations for the future.

Museum of Toronto is seeking part-time Gallery Attendants to provide excellent front-line service to gallery visitors. Gallery Attendants are responsible for establishing an inclusive atmosphere by welcoming guests and providing information on the organization and programming while ensuring the security and safety of the displayed artifacts/installations.

Responsibilities 
You will report directly to the Operations Manager and work alongside the Assistant and/or Associate Curators, your duties include the following: 
  1. Opening and Closing Exhibition Space: The Gallery Attendant is responsible for opening and closing the exhibition space on time. Duties include: Setting up tech equipment (iPads, projectors, headsets, etc), replenishing exhibition supplies, displaying signage, tidying up the space at the end of each shift, etc. 
  2. Visitor Assistance: The Gallery Attendant assists visitors with questions or concerns. This includes providing directions, answering questions about the exhibition and programming, and promoting the Museum of Toronto brand. 
  3. Be an ambassador: The Gallery Attendant will promote Museum of Toronto to visitors and tell them more about upcoming programming and city wide events. When possible, gallery attendants will ask attendees to sign up for our newsletter and/or make a donation. 
  4. Gallery Monitoring: Gallery attendant is responsible for observing the galleries to ensure that the displayed artifacts/installations are not damaged, stolen, or vandalized. This includes walking through the galleries, checking for any potential hazards, and reporting any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities. 

Qualifications: 
Courteous and well-mannered, outgoing with strong interpersonal skills, and must enjoy working in a public-facing role
● Ability to communicate effectively and engage with visitors
● A keen interest in the history of the city of Toronto and a passionate Toronto citizen
● The ability to work independently under general direction and in a team environment
● Dependable, responsible and prompt.

Rage of pay is  $17.20  per hour, less applicable statutory deductions. 

This is a part-time contract position requiring that you work weekday and weekend hours as per the exhibition schedule.  Standard work hours are 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m, which includes a 30-minute lunch break. Your schedule may vary and you will have the opportunity to work more hours through our off-site exhibitions and public events and programs.
